How often should you change your engine oil?
Changing the oil in your car’s engine is very important and should not be forgotten. The oil and filter should be changed every year
or every 7500 miles. If it is a diesel engine or a turbo charged gasoline engine then the oil should be changed every six months or
could change it every 3000 miles, depending on if you keep track of your mileage or not, if you do then you will know when you have
reached the 3000 mile mark.
Just to be on the safe side most people change their oil every six months no matter what type of driving they do or what ever car they
drive. If it is a new car then the oil will only need to be changed every 7500 miles or every year. The more mileage a car has the
more frequently the oil needs to be changed. So rather be safe than sorry and change your oil every six months or 3000 miles. On some
cars there is a light that will come on when you need to change the oil. Do not ever ignore that light! There is a reason it comes on.
It is very important to change your oil. If you do not change it often enough your car will start giving you problems and costing you
a lot of money. If not changed regularly, the oil dilutes which makes it break down. All this could end up with engine problems like
increased oil consumption and emission, loss of performance, and loss of the fuel economy. It could also cause oil sludging and
accelerated water.
There are three main types of oil that may be used, synthetic, synthetic blend or conventional. Every car will need to change their oil
eventually. It is hard to tell when you need a change just by looking at the oil because most oil goes black after a few hundred miles
of driving. As the miles accumulate the oil will start getting dirty and it will lose viscosity, it won't still have the same viscosity
as when you bought it or got it new.
So it is extremely important that you keep track of mileage or how long you have had the car and be sure to change your oil every
six months or every 3000 miles.
